The Great Barrier Reef Travelling Tips

Background: Studying in Australia and been to great barrier reef twice. I will talk about two trips and pros and cons of each.
Recently, some news were talking about the death of coral in great barrier reef due to pollution and high temperature arising from global warming. It's time to go and see before gone.

Trip one: Canberra-Brisbane-Gold coast-TownsvilleWhitsunday Islands)[with friends]
Day 1-3:Brisbane (city center, museum, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary)
Day3:Gold coast (one-day trip, car rental; surfers paradise, pacific fair)
Day 4-8: TownsvilleWhitsunday Islands)
Day 4: Airlie beach afternoon tour
Day 5: Whitsunday Islands (day dream +whitehaven beach) one day tour including snorkeling
Day 6: Great barrier reef scuba diving
Day 7: Helicopter tour of Great barrier reef including heart reef
    Day 8: Back to canberra

Trip two: Canberra-Brisbane-Gold coast-Byron Bay-Cairns[with mom]
Day 1-2:Brisbane
Day 2-5: Gold Coast ( good place for shopping, relaxing and swimming)
Day 5-7: Byron bay (recommended by friends, good view)
Day 7-9: Cairns ( not recommended, too crowded and not as many as tour in Whitsunday Islands )

Summary:
  1. Brisbane is not too much different with other big cities, so you can spend less time here.
  2. Gold Coast is a good place, so we spend more days during the second trip.
  3. Cairns is just like a tour city, but  Whitsunday Islands  is much more better. We live in Townsville, cheap. If higher budget, then hamilton island is good choice with airport.

Dinning:
  1. Japanese and Korean foods are good in Brisbane.
  2. Pacific fair shopping center has a variety of choices. Motto motto is my top one.
  3. Tapas bar in Airlie beach has good view and good place for a quite afternoon

What is authentic Chinese hot and sour soup dumpling(suantang shuijiao)

Today I went to dumpling house for lunch with my friend. I ordered a beef noodle soup and she had a Chinese hot and sour dumpling soup. However,  we were totally surprised by the dumpling soup when it came. It was basically adding dumplings to American version hot spicy and sour soup. Speaking of hot spicy and sour soup, it was barely mentioned in articles on  "Chinese Dishes That Real Chinese People Don't Eat", but I have to say the overseas version is really different with the authentic Chinese version. Nevertheless, this is not today's topic. Before talking about  authentic Chinese hot and sour dumpling soup(suantang shuijiao), let's have a look at comparison of two dishes. Authentic Chinese hot and sour soup dumpling (suantang shuijiao) The version in dumpling house As a matter of fact,  Chinese hot and sour soup dumpling is popular in Xi'an, capital city of Shanxi Province, China. This actually can be easily made at home.  ...

China version Apps and websites-part 1

As some may know, Chinese government implements very  Internet censorship. As a matter of fact, websites like Facebook and twitter are not allowed to log in and this actually stimulate China's version of those famous apps and websites. Let's have a look at several most well-known ones. 1. WEIBO(微博)-TWITTER Weibo is one of the most popular social media in China. Like twitter, it is a place to share personal opinion but restricted within 140 characteristics.  Weibo actually witnessed a lot of famous “events" like "see you in Monday" of Chinese entertainment industry. Now twitter is suffering from decline users and revenue, but Weibo seems doing well in China. 2. Youku (优酷)-- YOUTUBE Like youtube, Youku is a platform to share videos. However, Youku is more like a warehouse to store videos. By now, it produces self-made TV shows and series like Netflix, but hasn't found a way to foster its own "youkuer". It actually faces fierce co...

China translates all the foreign brands I

As someone may know, the first thing that international brands do to enter China's market is to name themselves Chinese version names. It turned out that some of them really did a great job on naming and let's have a look at some famous brands and their names in China. 1.coca cola(可口可乐) The translation is actually very good. The Chinese version sounds like the original one and it even conveys the idea that one drink can make people happy.  2.pepsi(百事可乐) Since Pepsi is a kind of coke, in the four-letter translation, the last two letters are the same meaning happy. But Pepsi did a even better job by saying that one drink can make everything going well. 3. Mcdonalds(麦当劳)                               Mcdonalds did worst than KFC in localisation, so it has less stores than KFC in China. The translation has no special meaning. As a matter of fact, it just sounds like a foreigner name. 4....
